Fallen trees seen from above

Why?

Why? Are there reasons why not every human considered equal? Is there any logic behind why not all lives are seen as being valuable and of incalculable worth? There are calls for war to exterminate communities and families. There are cacophonous shouts to shoot missiles and ship bombs. But, why?

Borders are justifications for murders and massacres. Nationality is a narrative to provoke aggression and hostility. The gap that separates these people is nigh on negligent though. They all want the same simplicities: love, happiness, family, shelter.

The notion that some humans are better than others is narcissistic. Yes, there are different beliefs and values. There are multitudes of various outfits and languages. There are contradictive ways of living and ways of dying. But at their core, are not all humans the same?

Every human has a beating heart going Thump. Thump. Thump. Until it thumps no more. Every human has a brain with neurons sending messages going Zap. Zap. Zap. Until it zaps no more. Every human exhales air made of atoms going Shh. Shh. Shh. Until they shh no more.

At the same time, the intricacies of diversity in humankind are what constitute humanity. Humans would be nothing without genetic variances and changing cultural characteristics. Homogeneity heralds extinction. Therefore, shouldn’t distinctions be celebrated and not condemned?

There is no set way to live. The past is no indicator since the present is new and vibrant and dynamic. The future is commanded by current conduct. So, believe boldly. Act empathetically.

Taking the path towards peace is not easy. It requires persistence and commands courage There will be no place for meekness or modesty. Audacity and determination will demand attention.

Although, there’s no need to be fearless on this adventure. Apprehension is not an anomaly, it’s an asset that allows for comprehensive action. The key is maintaining tenacity and avoiding arrogance.

Why is peace so hard to achieve? Why is division commonplace? Is it from conceited commanders, supercilious superiors, or pretentious pioneers? Are dissidents destined to be distained by societies? Will egos always engage in elusive and deceitful attacks? Will humanity ever be a whole?

Eventually, we are the ones who will answer these questions. Not everyone will engage in the activity of seeking serenity. Although, you can be an agent of altruism. You can aid in fermenting friendships and cementing ceasefires. The dawn of change commences with your commitment.

You can be a leader, a mottled dove or daring robin fluttering through the chaos of the Earth, setting others at ease and encouraging conversations. Each flap of your wings will stir up thoughts and fuel the fires held in hearts. Every coo you call out will be a song that touches more than just ears as it calls attention to atrocities. Then, as your shadow passes over homes and houses, people will look up in awe and be inspired to fly alongside you.

Your bevy of birds will hold more sway than thought possible. You will be champions of peace. As you soar overhead, feathers will flutter down. The phenomenal fallen feathers will be picked up by anxious children and beleaguered individuals. They will look ahead knowing now that they are not alone. When you stop to rest in the midst of a forest of grand, reaching trees, you will know that you are part of a revolution of daydreams and aspirations.

Hope is power. We know when change is needed, even when the why is unknown.

Fly with hope.

Make a difference

If you’re not sure where to start, try finding an organization to volunteer with. One option is to search the VolunteerMatch website for options near you. There are even virtual volunteer opportunities if you want to help without leaving the comfort of your home.

Another simple way to have an impact is by signing petitions that promote causes you believe in.

Want one more idea? Talk to people. Try having conversations with people about the topics that matter to you. Although, please try to be considerate and realize that everyone comes from different backgrounds. Even if you believe something strongly, other people might have different opinions and it’s important to be mindful that there is no one “right” way to view subject matters. You may even find that the views you presuppose as “correct” might be more nuanced than you thought.
